I'm Screwed

“I’m Screwed” is a montaged image taken from a Turkish movie called Paramparça made in 1985. In one scene of this movie the main actor is being drunk in a bar. He is feeling so sad and angry because the woman he wanted to marry rejected him. Eventhough it’s a short scene, it’s filled with melodrama and kitschy praxis of masculinity. So the man in this scene is a perfect depiction of one's patriarchal look on love, relationships and women.
In the video of I’m Screwed, one single image of the man in bar and his sayings are montaged to be in loop. We only see the man covering his face and we keep hearing his words repeatedly saying “I’m screwed… The woman I wanted to marry…. She said no… I’m shit… I’m terrible… She said no… I’m screwed…” So the montaging of this scene creates a claustrophobic atmosphere to make it visible the patriarchal state of mind in it.
Instead of romanticizing of “broken-hearted man” figure in popular culture, the video of I’m Screwed remarks the masculine sedulousness, unnecessary pride and violent look on relationship.
