Garden of Forgetting

film, 09'07'', 2022

"If you ask me, in a garden where snakes slither here and there, one forgets everything more quickly, painful memories fall asleep..." Latife Tekin - Garden of Forgetting

"Garden of Forgetting" project is a work inspired by Latife Tekin's book of the same name. The concept of the garden, which is examined as a place of rest, forgetting and at the same time establishing new acquaintances, is presented to the viewer as a dystopian and autonomous region where the human factor disappears. In the video, while travelling in this zone, we witness the sounds of two people playing a question-and-answer game. Through this game, they meet each other and share their desires and thoughts about the world.

What exactly is forgetting? Is remembering an individual endeavour or a collective action that takes place with the influence of the environment? Is it really possible to forget only when one is alone with "those who are not one's own", when one is in dangerous and challenging conditions? What is the experience of meeting another stranger in a foreign environment? Is the so-called garden a property or an autonomous zone that is inevitably shared with both invited and uninvited guests, implying that every visitor is temporary?

The Garden of Forgetting is the memory of a meeting process shaped around these questions, where game and theory, simulation and nature are intertwined.
